Once again, Grupo Cuevas is announcing a new edition of the Gourmet Competition, which takes place as part of the programme of events for the 27th International Gastronomic Tourism Fair ‘Xantar’, organised by Expourense from 19 to 22 November 2026.
The aim of this competition is to promote the use of chestnuts in all types of cuisine, from the most traditional recipes to the most experimental or innovative dishes. Chestnuts were once a staple of many diets, and this competition therefore seeks to highlight and rediscover the role they play in modern cuisine.
The competition is open to anyone aged 18 or over, whether a professional or an amateur cook, either as an individual or representing an association, school or group, and participants may enter either individually or as a team (maximum of three people per entry). Entrants are free to choose their dishes, provided they use produce from Cuevas and incorporate chestnuts in any form or presentation, or in any innovative way.
The judging panel will select three finalists, who must prepare their recipe live during Xantar on Thursday 19 November, from 6.00 pm to 7.30 pm. Each finalist will have 25 minutes to demonstrate their cooking skills in front of the jury and plate up their recipe for four diners. The judging criteria will include presentation, the use of chestnuts in the dish, the complexity of preparation, taste and aroma, as well as originality and creativity.
The winner will receive a €300 shopping voucher to be redeemed at Plenus or Aquié supermarkets or at Cuevas Cash outlets throughout Galicia, as well as a selection of Cuevas Chef products. The prizes will be presented on Sunday 22 November during the official closing ceremony of Xantar.
Those interested may submit their application by 1.30 pm on Wednesday 11 November, by telephone on +34 988 36 60 30 or by email to marketing@expourense.org.
